RAK Day: Genoa Middle School
June 21, 2010
On May 14, 2010, Lindsay Cooper, an associate with the 415 Group, attended Career Day at Genoa Middle School in Westerville, Ohio. The event was held to educate sixth and seventh grade students on various careers and the types of activities and classes in which they should be participating if they are interested in a specific career. Cooper spent the day teaching the students about the skills and education required to be an accountant. She discussed with them the different career paths that an accountant can take and what a job as a certified public accountant entails. She created a team activity to teach the students how to track money in a business bank account. The students were given paper money and a list of transactions that occurred during one month. Each team of students had to figure out what the balance in the bank account was at the end of the month based on how much money their business made and how much it spent. The presentation proved to be a successful one as the students enjoyed the activity and showed a genuine interest in the accounting profession.
